Vanilla sugar is one of those things that serve no real purpose other than make life a little sweeter and a little nicer. We need more things in life like that.
Requirements:
- Airtight container
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 whole vanilla bean (use 2 vanilla beans for slightly stronger scented sugar)
Procedure:
- Place sugar in airtight container
There’s a really interesting article in the New York Times today about Similac Organic infant formula. Turns out babies love it not because they came out of the womb as yuppies who turn up their noses at non-organic milk replacement but instead because it’s got real cane sugar in it.
You can buy the aerosol can of whipped cream or the tub of “non-dairy whipped topping” but I’m totally going to make fun of you and turn up my nose at either of those offerings. I reject the canned and tubbed dessert toppings not because I’m a food snob (well, not just because I’m a food snob) but because it’s so easy to make homemade whipped cream and it tastes so much better.
